The Power of the Human Mind: Understanding Its Mechanics for Effective Control

Have you ever found yourself unable to stop thinking about a particular negative thought, despite your best efforts to move on to more positive ones? If so, you're not alone. According to spiritual leader Sadhguru, the human mind is a sophisticated computer that is always looking to add and multiply thoughts, rather than subtract or divide them.

"In this mind, all the three pedals are throttle – there is no brake, there is no clutch – whatever you touch, it will only go faster," Sadhguru explains. "In this kind of mind, people have been taught from moral teachers and religious teachers, 'Do not think about bad things.' Well, since then, it's been a full-time job."

So, if we can't simply remove negative thoughts from our minds, what can we do to better control them? Sadhguru suggests starting with a fundamental understanding of how the mind functions. "First and foremost, there is something called as 'you' which exists," he says. "This is not a composite of all your thoughts and emotions and physiological processes. Beyond that, there is you."

By taking a step back and observing our thoughts and emotions from a distance, rather than getting caught up in them, we can gain a greater sense of control over our mind. This is where practices such as meditation and yoga can be particularly useful. "If you close your eyes, even if you cannot see anything, you're still there," Sadhguru says. "There is something which is watching all this. That is the possibility of human consciousness."

By tapping into this "something" – our consciousness – we can begin to gain a greater understanding of the mechanics of our mind and how to effectively use it to our advantage. As Sadhguru puts it, "This is the most beautiful thing you have. It's just that you need to pay little attention as to how it functions."

So the next time you find yourself struggling to shake a negative thought, remember that it's not about trying to remove it from your mind. Instead, take a step back and observe it from a distance. With practice, you'll be able to better control your thoughts and emotions, and unlock the full potential of your incredible human mind.
